Panel: Palliative Care – Film and Reality

Rarely does a documentary or a film in general move us as deeply as ›Palliative Care Unit‹, confronting us with some of life’s most universal questions. Director Philipp Döring takes us inside the daily life of a palliative care unit for the terminally ill, offering profound yet always respectfully distanced insights into the psyches of the patients. It is almost unbelievable that the film could have been made with such intimacy. Its compassion gives hope. Still, the thought of care at the end of one’s life can of course frighten us. We therefore want to give this important subject the necessary space and invite you to a panel discussion after the screening. The discussion will not only focus on the documentary itself, but also on the pressing universal question of how we will be cared for at the end of our lives.

Taking part in the discussion will be the film’s director as well as Dr. Sebastian Pfrang, the hero of the movie, who supports his critically ill patients with extraordinary perseverance, gentleness, and humanity. Also joining the conversation will be Christiane Pröllochs from the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Baden-Württemberg (Mannheim/Rhein-Neckar region) and Petra Waßmer from the Caritasverband Mannheim, representing the Runden Tisch Hospiz und Palliativ Mannheim, which is also the event’s cooperation partner and will be providing additional information on site. The discussion will be moderated by journalist Agnes Polewka of the Mannheimer Morgen.

When and where: 16 Nov | 11:00 am, start of screening | 3:30 pm, panel discussion | Cinema Quadrat, Mannheim | Admission: free | Language: German
