To break free in order to live – this feature debut, as visually powerful as it is emotionally charged, surveys how the society of an island of the Azores becomes a prison for its queer protagonists.

The life of the teenage Ana on the Azores island of São Miguel seems prescribed down to the last detail. The stranglehold of tradition, religion, and patriarchy that traps her is too strong, threatening to stifle her bourgeoning need for freedom. Her best friend Luis tries in his own way to break out of the hated social structures: he deliberately challenges rigid gender roles and always ends up crashing against boundaries. It’s only once Cloé re-enters Ana’s life after a long absence that her hope for liberation is rekindled.

›Wolf and Dog‹ is a microcosm made up of countless facets, populated by many small stories and their charming protagonists. Documentary and narrative moments are seamlessly interwoven in a passionate love story that entrances us through the beauty of its images.
