Vera

The daughter of a famous actor performing as the daughter of a famous actor. Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel playfully integrate biographical material into a fictional story.

Even though the director just turned Vera down at the casting, he still wants to take a picture with her. After all, she is the daughter of Giuliano Gemma, known to all of Italy from countless westerns. Vera’s famous deceased father accompanies her like a ghost, she can’t get rid of him. This is true of her personal relationships as well as her acting career. In order to preserve her beauty and youth, she has undergone numerous operations. She drifts through the Roman night as if in a dream, until the impact of a chance encounter seems to change everything. A young boy enters Vera’s life, giving her hope that things might finally get better.

In a playful, tongue-in-cheek, and yet compelling manner, the directing duo tell of loneliness, failure, and self-confidence – with lead actress Vera Gemma playing herself. Excellent!
