A baby at all costs? Childless Anna, in any case, is willing to risk everything. A moving drama that pushes its characters to the limits of law and morality, and beyond.

Julien and Anna are lawyers who have been trying to have a child for a long time. Franck and Meriem, on the other hand, live with their five children in a caravan on the outskirts of Paris. After Julien defends Franck in a court case, Franck makes him an outrageous offer: Meriem is expecting a sixth child, but they can’t afford to raise it. Therefore, they would like to leave the newborn to Julien and Anna. Given that such a deal is strictly forbidden by law, Julien refuses. Anna, however, scarred by years of fertility treatments and unsuccessful adoption applications, can’t give up on this chance. In an impressive, understated manner, ›The Sixth Child‹ brings together people from different backgrounds, forming a wholly improbable community of fate. They are each caught in an irresolvable conflict between self-interest and morality. In the end, one of them makes a great sacrifice.

Director

Leopold Legrand made a number of short films while studying film direction in Belgium. These include the documentary ›Angelika‹ and ›Mort aux Codes‹, which screened at numerous festivals and won several awards. ›The Sixth Child‹ is his first feature.
