When teenage Lea meets a much older man, he seems to be the solution to all of her problems. But things are not as she thinks.

Seventeen-year-old Lea doesn’t really feel at home anywhere. Not with her mother and not in her circle of friends. She’s bored stiff by the monotony of day-to-day life in the small town she lives in. Then she meets Tom. He’s handsome and sensitive and makes her feel special. The only thing is: he’s twice her age. But Lea pushes all doubts aside and is pulled deeper and deeper into a treacherous cycle of apparent closeness and emotional manipulation.

›Palm Trees and Power Lines‹ is a stirring drama about the hopes and disappointments of a teenage girl. Told with great narrative calm and clarity, full of affection and understanding for its magnificently portrayed protagonist. And at the same time, the film is much more: a convincing portrait of a landscape of the American mind.

Director

Jamie Dack studied film in New York. Her short film ›Palm Trees and Power Lines‹ premiered at Cannes in 2018. It was the basis for her feature-film debut, which received the awards for Best director and Best screenplay at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
