A hallucination between depression, death and violence: Lars von Trier's 'Antichrist' is an associative journey into the darkness of the unconscious.

A couple (Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg) try to start their lives anew after a fateful accident. They retreat to a cabin in the woods, intending to come to terms with their past. But grief and anger haunt them with extraordinary force, catapulting them into an inescapable downward spiral. With ›Antichrist‹, Lars von Trier gives despair, pain and sorrow a face: bestial, shocking, raw, sexual, mystical. Highly controversial at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, ›Antichrist‹ grew from a scandal into a cult film. Shot in the Rhineland, it belongs to the most successful collaborations between von Trier and his longtime producer Bettina Brokemper.

Lars von Trier earned a degree in film direction from the Danish Film School in 1982. He made a name for himself worldwide with ›The Element of Crime‹ (1984) and won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2000 with ›Dancer in the Dark‹.
