To wrap up: a feel-good drama from Central Africa

›Congo Boy‹ by Rafiki Fariala is our 2026 closing film

To round off our festival, on 15 November we’ll be celebrating the power of resilience and of pursuing one’s dreams: ›Congo Boy‹ by Rafiki Fariala is a feel-good drama about a strong young man navigating his experience of displacement, the challenges of everyday life and his great desire to become a musician. As always, you can watch the closing film in Heidelberg and Mannheim, with a closing party for everyone to follow here.

Here’s what it’s about: 17-year-old Robert lives in Bangui, where he fled to escape the war in the Congo. He dreams of a future as a musician, but following his parents’ arrest, he has to look after his four younger siblings as well as finishing school. When he hears about a nearby music competition, it becomes his greatest hope.
