RIP Frederick Wiseman

In memory of one of the most important documentary filmmakers

On February 16, 2026, legendary documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman passed away. He was one of the greatest American documentary filmmakers and chroniclers of our time. Since his debut film, "Titicut Follies", which celebrated its international premiere at our IFFMH in 1967, Frederick Wiseman had been closely associated with our festival. We regularly screened his films, most recently "City Hall" in 2020 and "Menus Plaisirs - Les Troisgros" in 2023. He received the Golden Lion and an Honorary Oscar for his life's work. Rest in peace!
