Our Opening Film 2026

We can hardly wait for it to finally kick off on 5 November! This is when we’ll be opening our grand anniversary edition with the German premiere of ›My Notes on Mars‹ – the English-language feature film debut by Hungarian director Lili Horvát. As is tradition, the opening will take place at the Cineplex Mannheim. Lili Horvát will also be joining us! The opening is, of course, also open to you, our audience. Tickets will be available from 19 October in our online shop here on the website.

Here’s what it’s about: Straddling the line between romantic drama and sci-fi thriller, Lili Horvát portrays in ›My Notes on Mars‹ a couple who lose their way – and perhaps find their way back to each other after all. The film centres on the brilliant astrophysicist Margot (Mackenzie Davis), who is exploring the possibility of colonising Mars. Following repeated conflicts with her husband Sam (Rupert Friend), she disappears without a trace whilst out hiking and then mysteriously reappears weeks later. Although she can’t remember anything apart from her research on Mars, Sam is determined to see Margot’s return as a second chance for their love.
