Masterclass: Tim Fehlbaum
07.11.2025 19:30
Tim Fehlbaum’s debut feature, ›Hell‹, was a German-language horror vision of a burning Earth. His second film, ›Tides‹, was again produced in Germany, but with an English-speaking cast. The director was accompanied by Munich-based producer Thomas Wöbke and by Roland Emmerich, who supported both German-Swiss productions from Los Angeles as executive producer. With ›September 5‹, Fehlbaum embarked on his first official German-American co-production, thanks to the involvement of Sean Penn’s production company. This journey literally led him to Hollywood, and to the Oscars.
We’ll talk with Tim Fehlbaum about the unique path he has charted in contemporary cinema. How exactly did his move to the US come about, and why are the roots in the German-speaking world are still necessary?
