Masterclass: Moritz Binder

Screenwriter and director Moritz Binder was born in Munich. In addition to the Oscar-nominated ›September 5‹, he has written screenplays for an episode of ›Tatort‹ (Munich), one of ›München Mord‹, one of ›SOKO München‹ – and yes, even for ›Neue Geschichten vom Pumuckl‹, contributing 13 episodes. The obviously strong connection between his hometown and his writing leads us to a broader question: how does he, as an author, find his stories? With regard to ›September 5‹, we’re of course curious to learn how writing for such an international film and audience may have changed his perspective. What are the challenges when multiple countries are involved in a film’s creation? And finally: what does it mean to work with a cast that includes the likes of John Magaro and Peter Sarsgaard?
