Every detective has a case that won’t let them go and hurts more than all the others. This thrillingly realized and superbly acted crime film revolves around such a case.

Clara has not only had affairs with many different men, but also with several at once. Is that why she was burned alive and had to die? “There is something wrong between men and women,” says Yohan, the chief investigator in charge of the case. In fact, he and his colleagues have quite a few suspects – all of them men. At the very start of the film we’re told that this case belongs to the portion of murders in France that remain unsolved. But that only makes this thoroughly exceptional thriller more involving. The intimate insight into police work that it offers is all the more realistic, because the complex characters, who are the heart of the story in this genre film, are free of clichés. With superb images and music, ›Night of the 12th‹ thus keeps us fully in its thrall.
