Almost like family, but on a temporary basis: caught between parental love, bureaucracy and child welfare services, three educators give their all to create a home for children. A film about the superpower of raising a child and about family in all its facets.

In a house by the shore of an idyllic lake, three educators work around the clock in a residential group. Cooking and shopping are just as much a part of everyday life here as listening and comforting. All five children who live here have one common wish: to return home one day. The educators work tirelessly to make this happen.

›The Family Approach‹ provides an intimate insight into everyday life at a child and youth welfare instiution. Taking place over the course of a year, the film focuses on the people in the background who strive day after day to give these children what they need most: a sense of security and the feeling that someone is on their side.
