A marriage, a house, and the sadness that both can carry. A sensitive portrait of a woman and her exhausting search for a place in a world dominated by men.

Marriage is like a cage, a famous philosopher once wrote: the birds on the outside want in, those on the inside desperately want out. That’s what happens to Suna when she marries the older Veysel. Their union promises the former actress financial security and a roof over her head. But both things are relative: the housekeeping money is meager and the marriage contracted by the imam doesn’t legally secure her the inheritance of the house. She’s not happy there anyway, least of all in the deathbed of Veysel’s previous wife. Her husband confines her to domestic and marital duties, she finds comfort only in alcohol and the rare conversations with her neighbor Can.

The director Çigdem Sezgin presented her debut feature ›Wedding Dance‹ at IFFMH in 2015. Now she returns with a sensitive drama that dissects Turkish conventions.
