The fates of women in a traditional society. Narrated with a minimalist touch, an evocative mother-daughter story.

Salma is a woman living alone in Lebanon. For years she has maintained her independence, which forced her to leave her husband and family behind. She endures her sometimes dull everyday life and keeps her protest bottled up inside. However, she has a secret relationship with her neighbor. Suddenly, the past shows up at her door in the form of her daughter, who is pregnant and divorced. From now on, the two women, who have become strangers, must learn to get along. The wounds of the past prove difficult to heal. - The story of this powerful drama is told in a wonderfully minimalist, clearly defined visual language that seems to consciously gesture towards Western film traditions. With breathtaking urgency, ›Riverbed‹ shows the burden that women must bear in a traditional society once they leave their predetermined path.

Director

Director Bassem Breche has already won an Emmy. Since 2007, he has directed three short films, one of which premiered at Cannes. As a screenwriter, he has been involved in numerous series and films. ›Riverbed‹ is his debut feature.
