Nicolas Winding Refn’s debut about the drug dealer Frank (Kim Bodnia) was a sensational success that spawned two sequels. Starring Mads Mikkelsen in his first role.

Frank (Bodnia) and his buddy Tonny (Mikkelsen) are rather small-time drug dealers in Copenhagen. When they’re not selling, they hang out on the streets or in bars. Frank has a loose relationship with Vic, a champagne girl, as she calls herself. After a botched deal that almost gets him arrested, Frank finds himself owing a large debt to a drug lord and must fear for his life. - At the beginning of his creative career, Nicolas Winding Refn was committed to a realistic style. Camerawork, rapid-editing sequences and slightly grainy images combine to create an effect of great immediacy.
