The call center employee Sohee commits a desperate act. When the police start investigating, they dig up a tightly woven network of social violence.

Through a program at her school, the young Sohee is supposed to gain her first work experience in the call center of a telecommunications company. What is sold to her as a real stroke of luck turns out to be a journey through the hell of performance optimization. Eventually, she only wants to escape. When police officer Yoo-jin takes on the case, she discovers ever deeper abysses. The director July Jung also delves deep into the harsh reality of labor in South Korea: where companies use subcontractors to undermine all the rights of their employees, where promised rewards increase work pressure without ever being paid out. Women in particular are victims of structural violence, which takes the form of harassment and coercion. With unflinching precision and great sympathy for its protagonist, ›Next Sohee‹ exposes a tightly woven web of social oppression – until, finally, no one can deny their complicity.
