A group of people dares to resist. A classic of Latin American cinema that urgently deserves to be rediscovered.

The fictional Latin American city of Aquilea (which resembles Buenos Aires) is threatened by a foreign power. A group of ordinary citizens, however, stands up to the mysterious invaders. They meet underground to discuss their strategies. But what can resistance possibly achieve? Before long, the members of the resistance themselves become hunted.

Written by literary giants Jorge Luis Borges and Adolfo Bioy Casares, ›Invasión‹ is a hauntingly dark and timeless tale about the necessity and value of disobedience. Made just a few years before Argentina’s military dictatorship, this classic now appears as a dark premonition.

Director

Hugo Santiago (1938–2018) was an Argentine filmmaker who lived in France from 1959 onward. As Robert Bresson’s longtime assistant, he was strongly influenced by his mentor. Starting with his acclaimed debut ›Invasión‹, his films frequently transcend conventional genre boundaries and employ a poetic, allegorical visual language.
