How does one dream of the future when the present is shaky? Franck Moka examines the uncertainty of the pandemic experience from a Congolese perspective

The rhythm of inhaling and exhaling is no longer enough to calm you down. When your eyes look up from the smartphone screen and jump to the surfaces of your own home, the same things always stare back. It is not only at home that the situation is increasingly threatening. Director Franck Moka follows the news relentlessly. There has been a case of Covid-19 in the region around the Congolese city of Kisangani, he is told. Unsettled, Moka's niece sends him a voice message: "Uncle Franck, do you have Corona?".
With 'Home Sweet Home', the filmmaker not only translates the individual and collective experience of the present into an experimental short film, but also enquires about the conditions necessary for a joyful coexistence in the future.

As a rapper in the 1990s, Franck Moka toured his native country, the Democratic Republic of Congo, crossed Rwanda and Europe, before turning to theater and film. Moka works as a performer, musician and sound designer. 'Home Sweet Home' is his directorial debut.
