Twisty, nimble and highly entertaining genre mix of black comedy, love story and film noir – an audience favorite at the festivals of Venice and Toronto.

Glen Powell (›Top Gun: Maverick‹) plays Gary Johnson, a philosophy professor at the University of New Orleans. He works part-time for the police and when he is asked to pose as a hit man in undercover investigations, Gary discovers his true calling. Decked out with fake glasses, beards and tattoos, he effortlessly slips into the most absurd roles. But when he falls in love with a client who thinks he’s a real killer, things spiral out of control. - Glen Powell and Richard Linklater adapted a true crime article by the Texan journalist Skip Hollandsworth, with whom Linklater had already collaborated on ›Bernie‹. As described in the credits, the result is an “almost” true story, told with ravishing originality in a wide variety of tones, which proves fabulously entertaining.

Director

In the 1990s, Richard Linklater became a key director of US independent cinema with ›Slacker‹ and ›Dazed and Confused‹. Perhaps his most important theme is the transience of time, which he explored in the ›Before‹ trilogy as well as in ›Boyhood‹, which was shot over a period of twelve years.
