In the middle of Brussels, two complete strangers first discover a forest, then themselves and, in the end, perhaps even love.

Brussels, the construction site of a high-rise building. This is where Stefan works. He finally has time off and after the weekend he wants to go to Romania, his homeland. But the refrigerator in his small apartment is still full, and so Stefan cooks a vegetable soup and brings some to all the people he meets before leaving. He himself, however, prefers to eat at a Chinese fast food restaurant. There he first meets Shuxiu, a doctoral student in biology who is researching mosses.

From situations that could not be more ordinary, ›Here‹ develops the most unusual love story. The storytelling is wonderfully discreet and delightfully empathetic. And this love story – if it is a love story – is embedded within a profound meditation on the importance of single moments and on the human condition.

Bas Devos comes from a small village in Flanders and now lives in Brussels, which is the setting of his four features to date. These have won multiple awards at the Berlinale and Cannes. Most recently, ›Here‹ competed in the section Berlinale Encounters, winning the FIPRESCI prize as well as the prize for Best Film.
