Uncanny love between a man and an artificial intelligence: Spike Jonze’s moving story of loneliness and intimacy in the digital age.

Some years in the future: Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) composes handwritten letters for people who find it difficult to express their feelings. But he himself is struggling with his emotions. In his private life, he also has difficulty communicating his feelings. And so he begins a relationship with the AI Samantha (voiced, unforgettably, by Scarlett Johansson), which soon develops into a romance.

A moving, melancholy study of a lonely human adrift in the digital world. 13 years after its release, this prescient work feels more relevant than ever.

Director

Spike Jonze (*1969) began his career as a successful music video director for bands such as R.E.M., Sonic Youth, Fatboy Slim, and the Beastie Boys. In 1999, his debut feature, ›Being John Malkovich‹, was acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. He is a master of the absurd and anarchic, pursuing both with comedy and melancholy.
