A classic and humanistic underdog story in the tradition of great boxing films. Shot in black-and-white images as lyrical as they are melancholy, a film at once beguiling and deeply moving.

It is the day of Mikey’s first fight after being released from prison. For a short time, he was once a celebrated boxer. Now there’s something only he knows: in his comeback his life is at stake. Therefore, during the course of the day, he sets out to meet all the people who are important to him. They encourage him to leave his heavily burdened past behind. At the same time, however, these encounters carry the weight of a potentially final farewell. Compressed into 24 hours, the film lets us feel all his pain, his love, his regrets, his happiness, his anger. But also his hope, which he never gives up. After a fight of the century at Madison Square Garden, it finally becomes clear that for Mikey, this day was never about boxing. - A moving underdog story of sacrifice, forgiveness and redemption with a deeply humanistic message.
