This love story, at once romantic and realistic, is unafraid to plumb emotional depths, and that’s precisely how it does justice to the complex feelings of its characters.

Annika runs a dance school in Copenhagen with her mother. Her somewhat monotonous life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Lasse, a withdrawn electrician. Despite his repressed anger, Annika begins a passionate affair with him. Only too late does she realize that Lasse’s dark past also affects her.

In her second of four collaborations to date with director Pernille Fischer Christensen, Trine Dyrholm brings an extraordinary physical presence to the role of the dance instructor. Alone the scene in which Annika learns of Lasse’s time in prison without losing her desire for him demonstrates the full extent of her artistry.
