The new epic by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, the grand master of Turkish auteur cinema. A film about a teacher in the countryside, his lost hopes and gaining a new perspective on life.

Samet is a teacher doing his compulsory service in an isolated village in western Anatolia. His goal is to be transferred to Istanbul soon. One day, however, he and his colleague and roommate Kenan are accused of inappropriate behavior by two schoolgirls. One of the two is Sevim, of whom Samet has been particularly supportive in the past. As the accusation threatens his transfer, he grows increasingly bitter. In parallel, he and Kenan begin to take an interest in the same woman. The resulting tensions keep growing. - As in his previous works, Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s new epic draws from individual life stories and their interconnections to compose a panorama of the various facets of Turkish society. Complex, magnificently acted and with a script of literary stature and power.

Director

Nuri Bilge Ceylan is the most important contemporary Turkish auteur. ›Three Monkeys‹ was the first Turkish film to be shortlisted for the Oscar for Best International Film. The film also won an award at Cannes, as did ›Once upon a time in Anatolia‹ and ›Winter Sleep‹, with the latter winning the Palme d’Or.
