Halfway between allegory and comedy, this film by director Aktan Arym Kubat, who also plays the leading role, contemplates the conflict between modernity and tradition. With elegy and tranquility, it focuses on the harmonious relationship between man and nature, which still exists in the mountainous region on the outskirts of Kyrgyzstan’s capital, but is on the brink of collapse. The Kyrgyz people consider themselves descendants of the winged centaurs of ancient Greek mythology. But the times are changing. The story of “Centaur” begs to ask the question if people really are better off without myths and legends. A cinematic meditation on the value of natural heritage and the weakness of the new world and its modern values, set against the backdrop of a marvelous landscape.
