Mannheim

On May 26 1952 the first Kultur- und Dokumentarfilmwoche Mannheim opens its gates to 20,000 guests who enjoy watching 130 films mainly from Germany, Western Europe and the United States.
Today, the Festival has developed into an internationally acclaimed Newcomer Festival with more than 60,000 visitors and nearly 1000 professional guests.

Mannheim

Downtown Mannheim is structured in grids. The Palace (now home to the university) is the focal point of this chessboard structure. The inner city with its grids was rebuilt after World War II, in which the city was almost completely destroyed.

Famous landmarks include the city castle, built in 1760, and the Wasserturm, located at one of the most splendid Art Nouveau pleasure grounds.

Being the second largest city of the Federal State, Mannheim is the home to several international companies but also to Mannheim University, giving the city its unique multi-faced character.
