Heidelberg
In 1994, the Festival was held simultaneously in the cities of Mannheim and Heidelberg, making it a worldwide novelty in the festival landscape.
Multiple venues showcase all films selected in the programme, balancing the official line-up equally between both cities.
The difference of both cities lies in their atmosphere and the visitors, which is highly appreciated and enjoyed by filmmakers.

Heidelberg

Heidelberg has long been associated with the "romantic" and the "idyllic". Writers and poets such as Goethe and Eichendorff, Mark Twain and Kurt Tucholsky have been impressed by the picturesque city. Its old town has remained intact throughout the centuries and thus retained its unique atmosphere, attracting thousands of tourists each year.
Nonetheless, Heidelberg is far from being out-of-time: Hosting the renowned Heidelberg University, companies such as Heidelberger Druckmaschinen or SAS as well as several Max Planck Institutes and the German Cancer Research Center, the city is one of the most important economic and scientific centres of the region.
